  Matthew Huttar

"Once you understand music, any instrument becomes a new way to speak the same language."

Matthew began playing guitar at the age of six and has never stopped. His musical journey started with an acoustic guitar received as a birthday gift, followed by his first electric guitar at twelve. Growing up in a musical household, both of his parents played guitar and sang in church, providing an early foundation rooted in country and gospel music.

Everything shifted with the discovery of the electric guitar. Rock music opened an entirely new world, and Matthew became deeply influenced by artists such as Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton AC/DC, and Led Zeppelin. Over time, his curiosity led him far beyond any single style, exploring blues, classical, flamenco, neoclassical rock, progressive rock, and fusion. These experiences shaped a versatile and expressive musical voice built on feel, musical understanding, and real-world experience.

Throughout his journey, Matthew periodically set the guitar aside to apply his musical knowledge to other insturments. His understanding of music theory, rhythm, and structure allowed him to transition naturally into learning drums, bass guitar, ukulele, mandolin, and various other instruments. This multi-instrument experience deepened his overall musicianship and strengthened his ability to teach students from different musical perspectives.

At eighteen, Matthew earned a scholarship to attend the National Guitar Workshop at Marymount University in Los Angeles. There, he studied under acclaimed guitarist and educator Dave Martone and attended seminars led by legendary virtuosos such as Steve Vai and Joe Satriani. Equally influential were years spent playing in bands, performing live shows, and recording in studios, experiences that provided lessons no classrom alone could offer.

Today, his musical home lives primarily in blues, classic rock, and funk. While capable of playing a wide range of styles and instruments, he believes the most meaningful music is the kind that connects emotionally and can truly be felt.

Matthew teaches because he believes music is essential to life. It provides an outlet for expression, emotional release, and a skill that stays with you forever. Teaching adults offers a chance to reconnect with that outlet, while teaching children helps ensure the next generation of musicians continues forward. He believes there is a quiet space within everyone that music has the power to fill, often before they even realize it exists.
